What about a new trading system?
They've announced guild services for guilds, with various traders and such. The more I thought about it, an idea popped into my head. We're all annoyed with the hundreds of people that spam the trade network in major cities. The sellers can't get people to see their offers because they get drowned in a swarm of messages. (Head to droks, dist 1 to see for yourself).
The solution? A new trading system. You go to a special trader. You put your item with the trader, along with the price you want for it, and leave. People can walk by, look at the traders goods, and see what's for sale. You can comeback later, pick up the gold, and move on. No more spamming the trade newtork. Good for the sellers, because they can go out and do things with time that they would be wasting advertising. For buyers, they have a list of items, stats, and prices, all in one window. No more scanning the trade network for an item being sold. Relieves a major burden on the chat system. To balance it, I'd say a fee for every item you want to put up for sale. And, maybe a time limit, like the auction system here at the Guru. These traders could be organized into special categories, like dye traders, weapon traders, etc. You could place them, say, in the first town after "pre-searing" (you know what I mean).
Just a thought. I think it's a great idea.

According to the radio interview's they do feel it's very needed and they are working on something (trade house, auction house) and they admit it's needed but from the sounds of it will be around C3 when it happens but it will be free to all owners (aka not a C3 exculsive).

/signed....but yes i too have heard about plans to do things such as auction houses to clear up town chat and stuff. i remember the good ol' days when i first got this game when everyone in town would just be running around talking to everyone and all that. but now it seems that nothing gets said in a town unless it is someone selling or buying something. and you cant forget all the immature people that run around yelling "ZOMG I B3 1337" and other stupid things like that. so yes anet plz give us the good 'ol days back and let people talk normally again.

Ya, I was hoping it would be a feature released with Factions, which is why I posted here, and not the suggestions forum.

But, like I said earlier, instill a time limit that your item is for sale. like the Guru auctions. If it doesn't sell within the time limit, then it goes into your storage. If storage is full, they'll hold onto it, with constant messaging to pick it up. If you don't pick it up, then it's deleted. Serves as a lesson that if you plan to sell it, you better plan to pick it up if it doesn't sell.

yea this Idea sounds very similar to an Auction house of some form,
its definatly needed your right but they have already said that they are working on "improvments to trade"..
Im certain however Gaile said it would be "between Factions and Chapter 3"..
so im expecting it to take a good 3/4 months...
After all Storage has been an issue for well over 9 months which they are only addressing now... Trade issues have been a problem since even before Shiro was born!

I don't want an auction house, I want a broker where I place an item+sell order, for a fixed price. On the buy side, I should be able to browse through all, say, shields on sale.
I should also be able to place buy orders at a fixed price, which any seller could fill.
Naturally, the broker would take a commission fee either way.

How many more threads do we need on auction house or anything going along with leaving an item and letting it be bid on, etc.

That's exactaly what I'm saying. I don't want to haggle with prices at all.

Yeah, it would be nice if it was all buy it now, and not auctions. What if we were allowed to set up a store at one of the npcs for like 10k ( keep the price high as a gold sink ). Then charge a commision of like 500g for each item listed. A item would stay in the store for 1 week then be returned to storage after the week is up. Hmm I think that would be 10x better than a auction house. IMHO
Buy it now stores FTW

Or make it so you can set up your own little shop wherever you like, exactly like in Lineage 2.
I would love some kind of automated selling process, I hate buying...selling...advertising, and this would save me a lot of time.

why not have both, a person can place in the auction house with a buy it now option, if the seller wished. Or if the seller wanted they could let the next IDS sword bid soar. That way I know to go to ascalon, Drok, and or LA to visit the linked auction houses. There could be one in Henge of Denravi, but I never visit there hardly.
ANd of course factions equivolent.

Hmmm. Linked traders sounds clever. I think allowing items to actually go on an auction sounds like a really big hassle, and a waste of time. The 'buy now' type sounds best.

They should implement the Bazaar type of zone for trading if the cost of bandwith allows. Mind you, you aren't paying a monthly fee for the game and things like trading zones/merchants consume their server's bandwith.
Also, in plugging my own wants... implement a LFG module. :< (They really need to cut down the need to text spam your LFGs/Sells/Buys!)
